What’s the aim of the event?
The aim of this event is to build upon work delivered under Mandate M/526 as issued by the European Commission, where infrastructure sectors were prioritized and their standardization needs in terms of climate change adaptation identified. We want to explore the findings of M/526 and add to that work with our stakeholders, to confirm their needs in order to tackle long term infrastructure resilience.
What’s the workshop focused on?
This workshop overall is about communication, collaboration and interaction between the various stakeholders engaged in standardization and will explain:
- The context around standardization and climate resilient infrastructure emanating from the European Union’s Work Programmes;
- A proposal for a Technical Report for the users of infrastructure standards that will explain how to source and use climate data for infrastructure design, operation and maintenance and how to become involved in its drafting;
- How existing guidance for standards’ authors is being consolidated into formal CEN/ CENELEC Guidance, with an exploration of processes, guides and tools available to the standards community;
- The connections between standards’ users’ needs and standards’ authors’ needs and the various ways climate data can be referred to.
Standards’ authors are faced with the challenge of finding out if and how climate change will affect their standards and how the document needs to be adapted to make it climate resilient. Climate projections, vulnerability and risk analyses play an important role in this. At the same time, the needs of standards’ users and the constraints of data providers must be taken into account.
