The modernization of Europe’s economy and the transition to more secure, affordable, and sustainable energy systems are key priorities for the European Union. In line with the European Green Deal, launched in December 2019, the EU is committed to achieving climate neutrality by 2050. Reaching this goal requires the development of smarter infrastructure and the adoption of new, innovative technologies.
European Standards (ENs) play a critical role in supporting the energy transition. They help improve energy management, encourage the use of best practices, and provide tools for consumers to better understand and adapt their energy consumption. Standards also promote energy efficiency, ensure safety and performance, and protect consumers, workers, and the environment.
CEN and CENELEC work closely with the European Commission and key stakeholders to develop and adopt standards that support EU legislation and climate goals. These standards are essential for the integration of technologies into complex systems, enhancing interoperability and enabling efficient data exchange.
