Inclusive, innovative and reflective societies

There are few standardization activities that can be readily linked to this challenge; standards nevertheless can play an important role here as enablers of semantic interoperability of collected data-sets.

Standardization and innovation is further not only about products or technology. Standards also have a role to play in support of societal aspects of innovation such as service innovation, innovative business models, etc.

An example is the FP7 project SATORI which aims to improve respect of ethics principles and laws in research and innovation, and to make sure that they are adequately adapted to the evolution of technologies and societal concerns. The project will develop an ethics assessment framework to be validated with stakeholders in the form of a CEN Workshop Agreement.
