We are happy to inform our readers that the CEN and CENELEC Annual Reports for 2019 have been published!
The Annual Reports consist of three parts: the joint CEN and CENELEC activities and one each individual report for CEN and CENELEC. Taken together, they present the main achievements accomplished in 2019 in European standardization.
Indeed, 2019 was an impactful year: the renewed EU institutional setting, the whirling trade discussions and Brexit have presented all organisations and businesses with new challenges and opportunities.
Digitalisation and innovation have imposed themselves as a new constant in our daily lives. Furthermore, the global coronavirus pandemic has shown how urgent it is for all organisations to become resilient and adaptable to sudden changes. This situation provided even more evidence of the essential role that standards play in protecting citizens and providing safe and innovative market solutions.
In this context, CEN and CENELEC worked intensely to make the European Standardization System fit to the evolving needs of the market, the industry and society at large. Some of the highlights it accomplished include:
- The “Standards Build Trust” campaign, highlighting on the role of standards in strengthening the Single Market;
- The focus on innovation, with the “Boosting Innovation through standards” conference and the first edition of the Standards + Innovation awards;
- The activities in priority and upcoming areas for standardization, to ensure that our Standardization System is sustainable and fit for the future. These include our workshop on Quantum Technology, the continuing work on Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Intelligent Transport Systems, accessibility, and sustainability, and the efforts towards the digital transformation of our products and processes to respond to evolving market needs.
These successes, and many others, are a good example of the strength of the European Standardization System, which allows CEN and CENELEC to look with optimism at the future.
