The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by the UN General Assembly, calls all countries and stakeholders to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The European Commission has shown its full commitment to their achievement of SDGs, putting the SDGs at the heart of EU policy making and action, as shown by the recent approval of the EU Green Deal.
Standards have a fundamental role to play in contributing to the successful implementation of SDGs: they can help ensure the sustainable use of resources and energy while protecting consumers, workers and the environment.
In order to discuss in detail this contribution, CEN and CENELEC, together with their members NEN (the Netherlands) and SIS (Sweden), will hold on Monday 8 June the webinar ‘Exploring standardization’s contribution to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)’.
The webinar will cover, among others, the following topics:
- Europe’s environmental and sustainability ambitions, goals and strategies
- How European standards can contribute in the overall achievement of the SDGs,
- How to include the SDGs in standardization projects in practice, through concrete examples,
- How you and your networks can accelerate the contribution to the SDGs through the standardization path.
Participation is free and is open to professionals in the field of sustainability and environmental issues and to all those interested in the interaction between standards and SDGs.
More details on the webinar and registration are available on CEN and CENELEC’s webpage.
