CEN and CENELEC are happy to announce that, after two years of continuous dialogue with all actors involved in the citation process, the European Commission has cited in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) several lists of Harmonised European Standards (hENs). This important development signals a relevant turn in the process of reducing the citation backlog of harmonised standards, to the benefit of the industry and consumers.
In particular, the lists of standards cited cover the following sectors: Toys safety, New Legislative Framework, Electromagnetic Compatibility, Explosives Atmospheres, Pressure Equipment, and General Product Safety. Overall, this citation exercise includes more than 60 new references.
More information on each lists can be found on the relevant EC Decisions below:
The 60 deliverables cited in the OJEU confirm the relevance of the collaboration between the ESOs (CEN, CENELEC and ETSI) and the European Commission in the framework of the New Legislative Framework (NLF). The timely citation of hENs in the Official Journal of the EU is a factor of strategic importance for the industry, as it ensures legal certainty and reduces excessive burdens for businesses, thus increasing trust in the smooth functioning of the Single Market.
For this reason, one of CEN and CENELEC’s priorities is to strengthen the relationship and hold a constructive dialogue with the European Commission, to ensure the timely citation of hENs. The constructive, structural dialogue with the European Commission has helped to progress on the number of citations. Further progress is expected in the future.
