CENELEC updates its IT cabling design and installation standards!
Information technology cabling is one of the – normally hidden – elements of the IT infrastructure of a modern organization. You only miss it, when it is not working! Since 1995, CENELEC has been serving its stakeholders with European standards (ENs) for the design of generic cabling systems that provide a future-proof IT cabling infrastructure to enterprises. What started as a single document, has evolved into a series of six ENs addressing cabling in offices, industrial premises, homes and computer rooms of data centres. The most recent update of series EN 50173 reflects the latest development in high-speed protocols with data rates up to 40 Gbit/s.
Series EN 50174 was written to provide a full set of requirements and recommendations for the proper installation specification, management and documentation of IT cabling as well as detailed installation practices for twisted pair and optical fibre cabling in general and in particular for EN 50173 compliant cabling designs. The 2018 edition of EN 50174-1 and EN 50174-2 reflects the recent developments in this sector and includes important requirements to be considered in installations, which deploy the latest IEEE Power over Ethernet specifications.
EN 50174-1:2018 and EN 50174-2:2018 were developed by CLC/TC 215 - Electrotechnical aspects of telecommunication equipment
The Technical Secretariat of CLC/TC 215 is held by DKE - German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies of DIN and VDE.
