EN 50271:2018 ‘Electrical apparatus for the detection and measurement of combustible gases, toxic gases or oxygen - Requirements and tests for apparatus using software and/or digital technologies’ was developed by CLC/SC 31-9.
This standard, addressed to manufacturers of gas detection equipment and of test houses, defines the minimum requirements for the hardware and software of gas detection equipment using digital technologies. The standard ensures that users of such equipment can expect that risks arising from digital technologies and software be minimized to a sufficient extent. EN 50271:2018 supplements the metrological standards for gas detectors (e.g. EN 60079-29-1, EN 50104, EN 45544-series).
This standard will be offered for citation in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU), to give presumption of conformity against the essential requirements of the ATEX directive 2014/34/EU (relating to equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres).
