The EU Industry Days are Europe’s flagship annual event focusing on key industrial policy discussions, connecting industrial frontrunners, and boosting the knowledge base of European industry. Every year, they provide an opportunity to companies, entrepreneurs, organizations, national ministries, regional authorities and other industrial stakeholders to organise their own sessions as part of the official programme.

CEN and CENELEC have developed a position paper on the proposed Net-Zero Industry Act. This document has been written in response to the consultation launched by the European Commission on 20 March 2023. CEN and CENELEC believe that European standards will be a vital tool to meet the high ambitions of increasing strategic net-zero technology production in Europe set by the Net-Zero Industry Act. 

On the 16th of March, the European Commission released the proposal for the Net-Zero Industry Act. CEN and CENELEC welcome the Commission’s proposal to strengthen European Green Industry and are excited to see how standardization can continue to foster innovation in clean technologies.

Through the introduction of new technologies and connectivity, Industry 4.0 projects allow manufacturers to increase the efficiency and quality of their processes. Now, a new CEN and CENELEC Workshop Agreement will provide the basis for the establishment of a European federated smart factory ecosystem that will facilitate the exchange of innovation and information across a wide array of stakeholders around Europe.

The application of Industry 4.0 technological advances along the production process chain is driving a substantial transformation of manufacturing quality management systems. The pervasive presence of sensors in products and processes and the widespread availability of technologies to integrate and transform these data into valuable insights enable the detection and prediction of manufacturing defects with great speed and prediction. 

The planned CEN Workshop Agreement will define guideline for establishing and executing an instrumental-based approach for data collection regarding human load during the execution of MMH activities, both with and without HRC technologies support. The guideline will describe all necessary requirements and procedures to be used for recording and monitoring data leading to a quantitative risk assessment.

On Wednesday, 9 February, Elena Santiago Cid, CEN and CENELEC’s Director General, participated as a speaker to the high-level panel “Standardisation in support of the twin transition of industrial SMEs”. The debate was organised by the European Commission in the framework of the EU Industry Days, Europe’s flagship annual event dedicated to the European industry. In particular, the 2022 edition was focussed on the industry’s role in the EU’s twin digital and green transition.
