In a world rapidly transitioning towards a greener and more digital society, the development of digital technologies and related policies has taken centre stage. Acknowledging the pivotal role of standardization in realizing its objectives, the European Union is committed to boosting the development and adoption of global digital standards for increased competitiveness.

CEN/TC 428 "ICT Professionalism and Digital Competences" has released a White Paper on how standards on ICT professionalism can support European AI policies to embed ICT professional competence within the development of AI systems.

On 21 October 2022, CEN and CENELEC published new standard on cybersecurity: EN 17640 ‘Fixed-time cybersecurity evaluation methodology for ICT products’ (FiT CEM).

ICT and digital technologies are everywhere. They could even be considered as the infrastructure of today’s world. Together with the many benefits they bring, though, their importance also raises ethical questions on their impact on society and businesses.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) plays an essential role across society, and contribute to foster the digital transition. Up-to-date, quality ICT professional standards underpin the digital ecosystem by applying a common language and identifying the essential professional benchmarks required to ensure high-quality ICT service provision.

To aid in the development of a European Professional ICT workforce, it is important to provide education and training fit to meet the requirements of the ICT professional community. This requires enhanced approaches to address the education of new and existing ICT practitioners and the need for continuous professional development.
