SIST hosted an event for 30 students from a local high school

On 22 March 2023, SIST, the Slovenian Institute for Standardization, hosted an event on Regulations and Standards attended by 30 students from a local High School. During a three-hour programme, SIST presented standardization through interesting videos and learning materials on standards related to the school environment and free time activities, and involved the students to actively contribute to the topic preparing interactive lectures and a workshop.

The students were welcomed and addressed by the Director of SIST, Ms. Marjetka Strle Vidali. She emphasized that young generations are extremely skilled in the use of web technologies, which will be an indispensable advantage in the future. The standardization process, like any other, will be managed by people with very strong skills in technology, to be able to respond to the needs and changes of the market.

In the theoretical part, SIST`s employees with several years of experience in standardization processes, product requirements and provision of information services concerning standards, introduced to the young visitors the role of SIST and pointed out the numerous benefits of participating in standardization. The theoretical part was followed by a workshop with a short interactive quiz and group workbook exercise during which they showed interest, commitment and knowledge - a great encouragement for the future engagement of young generations into the world of standardization.

The main purpose of this event was to bring standardization closer to the students and present the many advantages deriving from getting involved in the standardization process. Also, the event supported one of the main long-term goals of the European Standardization Strategy, which is to strengthen support to all stakeholders, including system education for future generations.

SIST is one step closer to this important goal at secondary school level: on 30th March, it conducted another important event, this time at the university level: a presentation at the University of Maribor to teachers of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. The primary aim of this workshop was to raise awareness on the importance of standards and their contribution to business and science amongst higher education teachers, who will pass the knowledge on to new generations of engineers and other professionals.
