Belgian Jo Cops elected President of the IEC

CEN and CENELEC would like to congratulate Jo Cops, from Belgium, for his election as the next President of the IEC, the International Electrotechnical Commission. Mr Cops will start his mandate in 2023 and will succeed current President Yinbiao Shu.

This election crowns a high-level career in national, European and international electrotechnical standardization for Mr Cops: he has been IEC’s Treasurer since January 2018. At the same time, in recent years he led the Belgian Electrotechnical Committee (CEB-BEC) as Secretary-General from 2012 to August 2021.

Mr Cops started his career in 1990 with Sony Belgium and subsequently held various management positions within Sony Europe, the Belgian cable operator (Telenet), and Alpha Technologies Europe, with responsibilities covering sales, budgeting, pricing, marketing and strategic planning.
