Standardization is an important tool for achieving the objectives of European policies, and in particular that of the Green Deal. This topic will be at the centre of the virtual workshop ‘Empowering European Standardisation for a Successful Green Deal’, organised by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) in the framework of the German Presidency of the EU Council.
The workshop will be held on 16 September 2020, from 14.00 to 16.30, in the form of a web conference with panel sessions and a live-chat feature. Thierry Breton, European Commissioner for Internal Market, will open with a video speech. This will be followed by, among other high-level speakers, Kerstin Jorna, Director-General of DG GROW, and Dany Sturtewagen, CENELEC’s President, who will give a keynote speech on the past 60 years of European standardization and how to keep it a success story.
The workshop will focus on current challenges for the system of harmonised European standards and will propose joint solutions for how this successful model can continue to make a significant contribution for European industry and society. The aim of the discussions will be how to achieve the goal of a sustainable EU economy with reliable, efficient and practical standards. Successful examples of the work on standardization in industry and the circular economy will show what opportunities standardization offers, particularly with a view to achieving the Green Deal.
