Standards are powerful tools for strengthening the Single Market, stimulating innovation and raising consumer protection. Europe has developed a unique system for standardization with a particular emphasis on transparency and inclusiveness. However, it is facing challenges that need to be addressed urgently. How can Europe take advantage of the European Standardization System to properly implement its industrial strategy, ensure a rapid economic recovery and reassert its ‘strategic autonomy’ in a more challenging world?
This question will be at the centre of the upcoming event ‘Making EU industry fit for the future: The strategic importance of standards’
, organised by EPC, on Thursday, 10 September
. During this webinar, Elena SANTIAGO CID, CEN and CENELEC’s Director General, will debate with high-level speakers from the industry, the standardization community and the European institutions on the role of the European Standardization System in supportingthe EU’s recovery and twin transition.
The event, which is part of a wider reflection on the role of standards for the Single Market undertaken by EPC, will be based on a recent Commentary by Malcolm Harbour
, EPC Senior Adviser and former IMCO Chairman, on the way forward for Next Generation Standards.
Participation to the webinar is open to EPC members, EU officials and the media. More information can be found on the EPC website
