On 14 October, CEN and CENELEC join the international standardization community to celebrate World Standards Day. A yearly event steered by the three international standardization organizations ISO, IEC and ITU, World Standards Day pays tribute to the collaborative efforts of the thousands of experts worldwide who develop international standards. The theme of this year’s edition is “Video standards create a global stage”.
This event is an opportunity to showcase particularly successful examples of how standards contribute safe and proactive changes to our world. Through a series of evolutions underpinned and supported by standards, video technology has been adopted all around the world, imposing itself as arguably the most relevant communication tool of the contemporary age. Videos have revolutionised entertainment, connected friends and families across the globe, and enriched our communication experiences.
As two of the officially recognised European standardization organizations, CEN and CENELEC contribute to the widespread adoption of technologies such as video through the development of European standards (ENs). Thanks to a voluntary, flexible and open system and the work and technical knowledge of more than 90.000 European experts from industry, consumers’, workers’ and environmental organizations, they provide European best practices which lead the digital transformation of society, keeping the citizens’ interests in mind and contributing to strengthening and fine-tuning the European Single Market.
CEN and CENELEC support Europe’s technological change while promoting European interests in international standardization, thanks to our strong collaboration with and with ISO and IEC, the international standardization organizations. The ultimate goal is to help European businesses enter new markets and reduce barriers to trade.
Through this fruitful cooperation at the international level, CEN and CENELEC are happy to contribute to a standardization system that works best for businesses and for citizens.
In order to celebrate World Standards Day, over the course of the day, we will be posting on our social media accounts some success stories of CEN and CENELEC standards related to videos. Join the conversation through #WorldStandardsDay.
Happy World Standards Day 2019 to all!
