Spring is in the air, the grass starts growing… and the robotic lawnmowers leave the garden shed… the “Do-It-Yourself fanatics” get their hands on their hand-held electric powered garden tools. Timely, CENELEC TC 116 released an update to the standards dealing with all the significant hazards presented by battery powered robotic lawnmowers.
These standards, supporting the Machinery Directive, help in creating safe tools for use in domestic and commercial environment and help increase safety of use for consumers, gardeners and everybody working with the appliances & tools.
EN 62841-2-1:2018 - Electric motor-operated hand-held tools, transportable tools and lawn and garden machinery - Safety - Part 2-1: Particular requirements for hand-held drills and impact drills was developed by Technical Committee CENELEC/TC 116 - Safety of motor-operated electric tools, whose secretariat is held by DKE.
EN 50636-2-107:2015/A1:2018 Safety of household and similar appliances - Part 2-107: Particular requirements for robotic battery powered electrical lawnmowers was developed by Technical Committee CENELEC/TC 116 - Safety of motor-operated electric tools, whose secretariat is held by the German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies of DIN and VDE (DKE).
