On 7 February 2017 the Adminsitrative Board of the Italian National Standardization Body (UNI - Ente nazionale italiano di unificazione) appointed Mr Ruggero Lensi as new Director General. He is succeeding to Mr Alessandro Santoro, who recently passed away too early and with whom Mr Lensi worked very closely.
A civil engineer, Mr Lensi began working for UNI in 1995 where he held various posts, first as Technical Project Manager, as Head of Standardization Activities, and Technical Director before becoming the Director of External Relations, New Business and Innovation in 2010. In this position, he was responsible for the development and monitoring of actions related to the objectives of UNI’s strategic plan. He became a member of the CEN Board in 2014.
The President of UNI, Mr Piero Torretta, has defined the decision as being ‘a choice for the continuity in the improvement’ (see UNI press release published on 10 February 2017).
“The appointment of Ruggero Lensi, CEN Board Member, as Director General of UNI, the National Standardization Body of Italy, brings a lot of value to the European Standardization. On behalf of CEN I would like to extend to him my warmest congratulations! Ruggero is a key actor in developing and promoting the values and principles of our system and we are delighted to have him as head of our Italian member.”
Elena Santiago Cid, Director General of CEN and CENELEC.
