European experts abroad in China and India

China

The Seconded European Standardisation Expert for China (SESEC) project was launched in May 2006 with the task of increasing awareness of the European Standardisation System in China and promoting co-operation with Chinese partners, as well as encouraging the use of European and international standards in China.

The project is supported and operated by CEN, CENELEC, ETSI, the European Commission and EFTA.
Since its launch the SESEC project has achieved enhanced visibility of European standardisation, increased cooperation between European and Chinese standardisation bodies, and provided continued support to European industry facing standardisation related issues in view of market access to China.

Another unique project which is managed by CEN, in cooperation with CENELEC, ETSI, the European Commission and EFTA, is the Europe-China Standards Information Platform (CESIP). This electronic platform is a website which gives information on the titles of European and Chinese standards both in English and Chinese. Currently four areas are covered: electrical equipment, medical devices, machinery and environmental protection. Other areas are planned for the future. The project was developed to foster trade between the two regions and to provide information in English and Chinese about relevant and upcoming standards to be applied to products when intended for export to China or Europe.

The platform is accessible at www.eu-china-standards.eu.

India

SESEI, the Seconded European Standardisation Expert in India will increase the visibility of European standardisation and promote the use of European and international standards in India, as well as increase knowledge and awareness of Indian economic practices in Europe.

The European Commission, EFTA and the three European Standards Organisations (CEN, CENELEC and ETSI) have joined forces to co-finance a European standardisation expert to operate in India. This project will be launched in 2012.
