Agreements and Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs)

In order to strengthen bilateral standardisation cooperation between Europe and third countries (which are not Affiliates or Partner Standardisation Bodies) or regions, CEN and CENELEC conclude Cooperation Agreements with the National Standardisation Bodies (NSBs) of such third countries or Memoranda of Understanding with Regional Standardisation Bodies of third regions.

Such Cooperation Agreements and Memoranda of Understanding give each organisation the opportunity to reiterate its commitment to the principles of international standardisation and close cooperation with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).  Furthermore, these agreements aim to align whenever possible positions to be reflected at international level (ISO and IEC), to deepen mutual understanding of each organisation and provide an opportunity to exchange information on a regular basis, arrange joint workshops and seminars or study trips.

These lists are snapshots of the current, and ever increasing list of Cooperation Agreements and Memoranda of Understanding that CEN and CENELEC have with third countries’ national standards bodies and regional standardisation organisations.

Moreover, in order to consolidate the European position on the global arena, CEN, CENELEC, but also ETSI, have already signed, and are currently negotiating, joint cooperation agreements and Memoranda of Understanding with third countries’ NSBs and regional standardisation organisation.
