The Irish Presidency of the Council presented its work programme for the first half of 2013 on Wednesday 9 January. Their theme is “For stability, jobs and growth”. Amongst the priority topics, the Irish Presidency will also focus on Research and Innovation, aiming at reaching an agreement on Horizon 2020, including the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), before the end of the semester.
Ireland will focus on simplification while ensuring that Horizon 2020 funds are “invested more effectively”. Other priorities for Horizon 2020 are major investments in key technologies, bridging the gap between technology and the market, SME participation and building partnerships between Member States and industry. The implementation of the European Research Area (ERA) is also top on the agenda, together with boosting the EU’s innovation capacities.
